BEST DUMBELLS EVER!!!! November 5, 2008 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was torn between these and the PowerBlock dumbells I kept reading about. I had a chance to check out the 2008 and prior model Bowflex Select Tech's at Dicks Sporting Goods, and I remember thinking about how easy it was to spin the dials to adjust the weights.
My only concern and hesitation was that a few reveiws mentioned the possibility of the weights rattling and people were worried they could fall off? I had not heard this before, so I researched it more and although the PowerBlock dumbells had gotten good reviews, I simply could not get past how ugly they were, and the fact that they used a magnetic pin to hold the weights in.
I decided to spend the few extra dollars on these 2009 model Select Techs (assuming any prior issues they may have had were corrected) and boy am I glad I did, they are AWESOME! The dials, in my opinion, are ten times easier than the magnetic pins of PowerBlocks, and these Bowflex dumbells look ten times more fashionable (our gym equipment is on our loft, so yes my wife and I have a style standard). These dumbells are about 15 inches long, but neither of us have any issues with their size (I think the PowerBlocks were only a 3 inch difference anyways).
We are 100% happier we bought these, and we bought the stand from Amazon to go with them also (it is better for your back if you lift dumbells from a standing position instead of from a squatting one). I hope you enjoy your SelectTechs as much as we enjoy ours!

First Thing -- You cannot / must not / should not attempt to drop these.
If you want a dumbbell that you can work out until failure and drop (which I, personally, think is foolish) this product is not for you.
If you are performing workouts that are under control / smart these will work fine.
I like that they were cheap to ship from Amazon. I am a previous owner of the smaller SelectTech (the 2.5-20lbs ones) and I purchased the 552 because I needed heavier things to lift.
GREAT WITH P90X!! December 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
these dumbbells go with the P90X home fitness system. it allows you to quickly adjust weights without having 20 diffrent sets of weights. You can also see faster results because the weights gradually increase to a max of 52.5 allowing you to improve and build up stregth. it sucks amazon dont ship to APO but i was able to just send it to my friend and forward it to me. overall the postage was about 70 bux from cali to APO. if you want the best dumbbells system.....get this one!
Fabulous Product December 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We love the weights. Both my husband and I use them and they are perfect for tight quarters. We have a tredmill, these weights, and a balance ball that we use and working with these weights allows us to complete our work outs at home rather than a gym! I highly recommend them to anyone who wants perfectly calibrated weights all in one! Why have multiple weights when these are great! That is of course, if you want to lift over 52lbs of weight in each hand!
it works... December 27, 2008 I wanted to get these weights because I was tired of switching the weight amount based on what exercise I wanted to do or how I felt that day. It was so annoying to switch the weights around I would end up skipping my exercise all together. This really helped me save time and be more motivated to lift as it is so quick and easy to adjust the weight.
